We build our company around sustainability, and we have developed projects through our foundation PRODETI that excel certification requirements. PRODETI stands for “El Progreso Depende De Ti” in Spanish, which means “Progress depends on you”. This foundation was created to empower our employees, their families and the community living near the farm.

COMMITMENTS

Super Barato

It is a non-profit supermarket created inside the farm, gathering different crops and produce from neighbouring farms where all our employees and the community nearby can benefit from great prices and proximity to their households without travelling long distances to the nearest town.

Schools

We have founded one school at the farm entrance where we support around 120 children who belong to the community and spend their mornings and afternoons while their parents work. The Ecuadorian government evaluates the school each year, and the children can pursue higher education when they graduate from it and, with this, continue shaping their future.

Water

We have implemented irrigation & drainage systems where we have 100% control over the water we use, reuse and recycle.

Harvest Courses

For growing their crops in their gardens, we teach our workers' families and communities how to grow their food in their households.

Beehives

We started introducing beehives in 2016 with three beehives. Today, in 2024, we can proudly say that our bees have reproduced, and we now hold 45 beehives inside the farm; this is an excellent indication that the farm contains a safe environment for bees and other creatures. The extra honey accumulated in the beehives is harvested & “sold” without profit in the “SUPERBARATO” supermarket or also allowed to be sold by our farm workers to have extra earnings.

Compost, Fertilization & Organic Material

This is a vital topic since a cacao plantation uses a lot of nutrients from the soil. We must be cautious and efficient in returning those nutrients and organic matter to the earth to keep the balance in the ground and promote sustainability.

Handcraftship Courses

We offer the possibility of learning or relearning the art of handcrafts, benefiting from fibers of bananas and more, we then buy from them most of these crafts where we can promote the farm & chocolate and they can have an extra income for their households.

Planting Of Native Trees

We have 100,000 m2 of primary forest inside the farm, and we are experiencing continuous growth and development due to the introduction of endemic trees in strategic zones around the farm.

Transparency

The doors of our farm are always open. We genuinely believe it is the only way of assuring success. We invite and receive around xx guests from all over the world on our farm every year, where they can witness everything that stands behind our chocolate and can then feel proud of it just like us, assured there is a way of making an impact on a lifetime while enjoying pleasure with chocolate.

All our cocoa beans comes from our 100 year old family tradition & plantation “Hacienda San Jose” in Los Rios, Ecuador.
